Boat trip to Cagarras Islands

An amazing trip! We begin from Barra da Tijuca, near Quebra Mar, and we go towards the Cagarras Archipelago, popularly known as Cagarras Islands.

About 5 km south of Ipanema beach, the archipelago is composed of seven islands and cliffs.

The origin of the name is not sure but the most accepted is that it would be due to the large amount of excrement of seabirds that inhabit or fly over the archipelago. They feed mainly on fish, and then excrete the excess calcium from their meals on the rocky slopes of the islands, staining them in white. Crazy?

At the bottom of its waters, we find a huge variety of fish, crustaceans, mollusks, seaweed, starfish, as well as constant visits of turtles, dolphins and even whales. Very sought after by dive lovers.
